The NuTrak Database is loaded from user selectable files called Nutrition Data Files. The concept of NDF's allows the user to tailor the database to include only those foods or dietary supplements he or she is interested in. It also allows us to easily update manufacture's facts and offer information for new lines of foods or supplements as they become available. An example of available NDF's are
- USDA17.ndf - USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 17
- USHG.ndf - USDA Nutritive Value of Foods, Home & Garden Bulleting Number 72
- NSLEF.ndf - Life Extension Foundation Dietary Supplements
- FastFood.ndf - Nutrition Facts from various popular fast food restaurants including Arby's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, KFC, Long John Silver's, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Subway, Starbuck's Coffee and more
- Cigarette.ndf - US Federal Trade Commission Report of Tar & Nicotine Content (Yes, you can even use NuTrak to help to stop smoking)
How it Works
1. To use NuTrak, you maintain a Journal of what your eat, what you do and the results or reactions. You can also build
Goals of desired nutrient intake, exercise goals or results in terms of weights and measurements.
2, When making Journal Entries or
building Goals, the user selects items from lists in the database. These lists include:
FOOD LIST (foods, beverages, supplements,
drugs)
ACTIVITY LIST (excercise, sleeping, meditation, shopping ...)
RESULT LIST (current weight, headache, energy level, mood ...)
NUTRIENT LIST (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, drug chemicals ...)
3. The database is divided into two sections, My and Master.
The Master section is a reservoir for building My Lists.
As items are selected from a Master List they are automatically copied to
the corresponding My List. The user can
also add items to their lists by using the Add or Clone commands on the forms provided.
4.
The Nutrient List is shared by all users. You can add an unlimited number of nutritional or chemical elements.
(ex. Vitamin E, Zinc,
Ginko Biloba, Aspirin, Nicotine ...) .
5. Initially, making Journal Entries may seem like a tedious and frustrating activity. NuTrak
does not claim to provide you with a list of all the foods you might consume. We have tried to make it easy to add your own foods
from Nutrition Facts provided by package labels or restaurant brochures. Over time, your lists will contain most of what you consume
and the journal process will become easier.
After a short learning curve you will see that the design of NuTrak is elegantly simple
and easy to use.
Although we do our best to ensure the accuracy of the data in the master database, it is very important, especially with dietary supplements, that you compare our data with the facts label on the package. If there is a discrepancy, you can update your information to be accurate.
Notice to Food or Dietary Supplement Manufacturers
We would like to enhance our database to include as many foods and supplements
as possible. If you are interested in having an NDF built for your product line, please contact us with information on where we can
obtain your nutrition facts.
